Welcome to Rob Knight's Swim
America. We think you'll find that Swim America is truly a
full
service family aquatic facility with a state of the art learn-to-swim
program developed by a committee of the American Swimming Coaches Association.
Our staff has been professionally trained to offer you the very latest in
teaching methods. Swim America, which opened in June 1992 is owned and operated
by Rob and Chris Knight and has a staff of 14 employees. In addition to being
CPR and First Aid certified all staff have received extensive training on the
proper teaching techniques and Level I ASCA teaching certification. TEACHING
PHILOSOPHY
At Swim America our focus is on making
learning fun in a warm 90 degree water, clean environment. Our small-group philosophy for
lessons (up to 4 swimmers per instructor in the shallow lanes and up to 5
swimmers in the deep-end) allows for rapid progress. We may have five different
stations/ability levels in group lessons at one time.
We will place you
in the appropriate class in lanes 1-5. Lane 1 is for young swimmers that go
under water comfortably, are learning to front and back float and
beginning to kick. Lane 2 can kick on their front/back independently, and are
working on freestyle/backstroke. Lane 3 swimmers can kick and glide on their
front and back 20 feet, and are working on freestyle with rhythmic breathing.
Lane 4 swimmers have mastered rhythmic breathing, can swim backstroke, and are
learning breaststroke kick. Lane 5 level swimmers are working on breaststroke
and butterfly, and refining freestyle and backstroke skills. This method
provides natural progression and allows you to bring your children of different
abilities at the same time.
All students receive a Swim America
chart to keep track of their progress. There are two skill charts with ten
sticker levels. The Pre-School chart is for children under six and the
School-Age chart is for children six and over. Once all skills have been
mastered for a level, they receive a gold sticker for their chart. Occasionally,
students are promoted to the next lane to work on more advanced skills. If you
begin the program and turn age 4, and do not complete all ten sticker levels,
you will still graduate to the advanced School-Age chart when you turn six. Our
goal is to teach all students to be comfortable and relaxed in the water. When
this is accomplished, proper stroke skills may be learned resulting in a safer
and more confident swimmer.
