RKSA/BNSC Pre-Team

Our goal is to prepare young swimmers (ages 5-6 ½ ) at Swim America for competition in the local summer rec league.  PreTeam (PT) is for swimmers who are typically Lane 3 ½ -4 and want to compete for the Bloomington Normal Swim Club (BNSC).  PT is the same price as a swimming level, but 55 minutes long. We offer classes 2x/week and expect you to attend 2x/week by the final payment period beginning April 2nd (If you want to attend 1x/week now, that is fine.)

Text Box: Classes are: Tuesday 6:45-7:40 and Thursday 6:45-7:40

Requirements:

1)   Confident in deep water as practice is in the deep end at RKSA!

2)  Side breathing doesn’t have to be 100% mastered, but needs to be close~  (Teachers really need to teach side breathing in the shallow end, where their feet are on the ground.)

3)  Must know how to backstroke at least ‘across’ in the deep end without assistance! Teacher is OFTEN out of the water for basic freestyle and backstroke!!!

4)  Knowledge of Breast and Fly is NOT required ….that is the biggest goal of P-Team….learning  breaststroke  and butterfly!

5) Plan to stay in the program NOW thru summer. And, plan to be in town over the summer (June and July) and represent BNSC. PT is not designed for swimmers who plan to compete this summer for an opposing swim team.  Lessons would be appropriate for that population.  Opposing teams are: Blm. Parks, Normal Parks, Lakeside CC, Crestwicke CC, the Marlins, GE, and Four Seasons. (BCC is part of another swim conference.) However, you cannot swim for two different teams/conferences.

6) Ability to focus and comprehend skills; follow directions.  The coach expects swimmers to listen as there is a lot of information to absorb.  (A free TRIAL is recommended to be sure of readiness for both the swimmer and the Coach.

We have lots of goals: some listed below!

Master Breast and Fly in our Pool – longs ways without flippers!

Introduce racing concepts including Racing Starts and Turns.

Refine Freestyle and Backstroke; build endurance for those two strokes.

Once Br and Fly are mastered at the RKSA pool, swimmers may transition to the Bloomington Normal Swim Club who practice at Metcalf Pool. That could occur before the summer begins, but is based on:

Performance

Attendance (and on time).

Ability to comprehend stroke corrections.  (If corrections don’t come easily HERE, they will definitely NOT at Metcalf, as the numbers/ratio are much higher. )

Swimmers who have eight stickers on either Swim America chart, should be able to advance.  That indicates you can swim br and fly, and of course freestyle and backstroke.

FYI: BNSC Swim Team is not a ‘teaching’ environment like lessons or PT.

Text Box: There will not be competition until June 2012, and after Summer 2012 they may advance to BNSC. At that point, you will need to be a registered swimmer with Illinois Swimming and pay their $60 annual reg. fee! That $60 fee gets you a membership to USA Swimming and offers an accidental/supplemental insurance plan.
Check out the website at www.bnswimclub.org. Click on Gen. Information. There is an annual $60 Illinois Swimming Registration Fee due once you join BNSC. The BNSC registration form (along with the fee structure) is on the website as well. This is nothing we need to be concerned with at this point, we are just sharing as much information as possible.
