Congratulations
swimmers on our
victory against
Four
Seasons.
We had over
20 swimmers signed
out of the meet, so
lots of swimmers had
to swim up!
(or got too,
depending on how
they view that
opportunity.)
We had one 8
& under boys relay,
with 4
six year olds….and
they took 3rd
place.
WOW! (They
only score the top 3
relays, so sometimes
it doesn’t make
sense to make a 3rd
relay in one
particular age
group, if they could
swim up one age
group where we need
swimmers. And, you
cannot sweep 1-2-3
in the relays.
)
Our goal is
to get the
most swimmers
in a particular
meet; if we have to
swim them up to get
them in an event, we
will!
It sure
beats sitting out.
It takes
coaches (mostly
Kendra) about 8-10
hours to set up a
meet. And, it takes
about 30 seconds for
all that work to
fall apart.
That’s life in the
swimming world!
Coaches and
volunteers do their
best to service our
swimmers, so please
be supportive!
Positive
energy is
contagious!

Team
Updates -
6/29/08
1) No
Practice, Friday, July
4th.
2) Yes,
we will have practice on
Saturday, 7/5
for Long Course
Swimmers. I
will know this Tuesday
morning, if it will be
at Lincoln
or
McCormick. I need to
verify with the Lincoln
coach on Tuesday. I will
NOT send out an email,
so if I miss you at
practice this Tuesday or
Wednesday, you can
always call my cell @
531-1896.
3) Thursday, 7/17,
NO
Lincoln practice for
Long Course
swimmers. Stay and
practice at McCormick
with Silver and Gold. (I
will be at the Sectional
Meet in Milwaukee.)
4) We are making plans
for the B-Meet, which is
at Four Seasons on 7/19.
This is a nice half-day
meet for the Swimmers
14& under. It usually
is done around 1pm, they
have nice individual
awards, and will have
the conference t-shirts
for sale. There are NO
relays, and no points
are scored, but they do
add a 6 & under 100IM if
we have any 6 & unders
ready for that
test?. There are ceiling
times, so if you are too
fast in a particular
event, you cannot enter
that event.
This is a warm-up meet
to the Conference
Championship, where only
2 swimmers, per event,
per team
will qualify for finals
on Sunday. And, we can
only enter 1 relay per
age group! We NEED
everyone in attendance
for the A-Championship
Meet the following
Saturday. It doesn't
matter if you also
qualified for the B
Meet. WE are a
TEAM, and want everyone
to be included. (You
must have swum in two
dual meets to qualify
for the A Meet,
which is expected.)
5) We will be working on
the Long Course JO
entries for 14 & unders,
so take a look at the
meet packet and get your
thoughts together in
terms of events you want
to enter.
6) Warm-ups for the meet
this Tuesday at
McCormick Pool are at
4:30pm.
See you there!

FAQ's: (See
FAQ page for more FAQs)
1) Long Course vs.
Rec League? Does long
course refer to my
swimmer?
All new swimmers to the
team begin in our summer
local rec league which
is a program that begins
in early June and
continues through the
end of July with
the Conference
Championship. Everyone
participates in rec
league, however, some of
the more experienced
swimmers also compete in
USA swim meets during
the summer, and all of
those competitions are
held in a 50Meter pool,
which we do not have in
Blm-Normal. (That is
why Rob has been taking
them down to Lincoln, so
they can practice in a
50m pool.) Once, fall
begins, the 50meter long
course season is over,
and we'll resume with
the standard USA Short
Course season which is
all done in 25 yard
pools. We hope all of
our summer swimmers will
continue with the team
and participate in USA
swimming competition
which begin in the Fall
and continue through
March. And, competitions
are more like 1/month,
unlike rec league.
It
takes a huge commitment
on our part to offer
both rec league and USA
swimming during the
summer months, but it is
a service we feel is
important.
2) RKSA or BNSC?
BNSC stands for
Bloomington Normal Swim
Club which is the
official name of the
not-for-profit
organization. (Swim Team
and our lessons's
program, Rob Knight's
Swim America, are
officially two separate
organizations.) Our USA
swim team is registered
with Illinois Swimming
as Bloomington Normal
Swim Club, but our
4-letter required club
code is still RKSA. We
are planning on making
the club code BNSC when
we renew our team
charter in the Fall.
Our local rec league
team is still called
RKSA through this
summer! Since the team
is not-for-profit, we
can accept State Farm
Good Neighbor Grants for
volunteers who work 40
hours, which is really
easy in the summer. See
Rob if you would like to
apply for a $500 SF
Grant. They are very
much appreciated, and
help keep cost under
control.
FYI: The average cost
of swim team is about
$22/week per swimmer,
which includes a lot of
practice time and
coaching hours. (It
costs more in gasoline
to drive them there!)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we look forward to the
rest of the summer season it
is time to start looking at
B-Meet time. The B
meet has time standards that
you can not exceed if you
want to swim at the meet.
Here is a link to the
standards.
is a link the summer top
times report that shows your
best times for the summer
meets.
next to the time means that
you have exceeded the B-meet
qualifying time.

Congratulations on great
swims at Carmel. The team
took third. More high point
and results to follow when
they are posted on Carmel's
site - Friday and Saturday
results are on our website.
Thanks

Updates for Summer!
Summer season is in full swing, and
the swimmers are really stepping up to
the challenge of swimming new races, or
swimming up an age group. We also wanted
to Thank the Parent Volunteers, without
you the coaches would be unable to help
the kids swim their best. If you haven't
gotten your ribbons from the Marlins
meet, please check your bin.
The Summer swim season is fast paced,
so please stay on top of your swimmers
sign-outs, and watch the e-mails. If you
do need to talk with someone, please
call the office during office hours, or
e-mail us, and we will try and get back
with you promptly.
Thanks again!!!!
